Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate English Language Development (ELD) Teacher to join our dynamic team at Thornton, CO. As an ELD Teacher, you will play a critical role in helping our multilingual learners develop their English skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. You will work collaboratively with classroom teachers to ensure that best practices for multilingual learners are implemented throughout the school day. Key Responsibilities

As an ELD Teacher, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and organizing language development instruction consistent with the district curriculum
  • Utilizing the WIDA framework and standards in the development of lesson plans
  • Employing a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers to ensure best practices for multilingual learners are implemented throughout the school day
  • Administering required language proficiency and academic achievement tests within the required time frame
  • Maintaining cumulative folders with required paperwork for English language learners
  • Running student reports weekly to ensure accuracy of data
  • Collaborating with building administration to collect and complete all required paperwork for the multilingual learner redesignation process
  • Assisting in monitoring Fluent English Proficient (FEP) students who have exited from ELD services within the last two years
  • Remaining current in all district CLDE related communications
  • Attending IEP, Section 504, or other related meetings necessary for student assessment and/or compliance with federal and/or state law

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years old
  • Criminal background check required for hire
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid Colorado Educator License
  • Must possess the required license and endorsement according to ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act)
  • ESL, Bilingual, or (LDE) Linguistically Diverse Education, (CLDE) Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education endorsement required

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following preferred qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Experience working with multilingual learners
  • Knowledge of the WIDA framework and standards
  • Experience with sheltered instruction and co-teaching
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
