About the Theatre Program
The Theatre Program at Weber State University is a vibrant and dynamic community that celebrates individual differences and diversity. With approximately 120 majors and concentrations in acting/directing, musical theatre, design/tech/management, theatre education, and theatre generalist, the program is dedicated to providing high-impact learning experiences, student leadership opportunities, and making space for new voices and new work. Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and passionate University Faculty Theatre Voice and Movement Specialist to join our team. As a tenure-track Assistant Professor, you will play a key role in shaping the next generation of theatre artists, contributing to the advancement and growth of the Acting/Directing and Musical Theatre Majors, and helping to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment. Key Responsibilities
- Teach Voice and Movement for the Actor, Dance for Musical Theatre, Introduction to Acting, and general education courses in theatre
- Contribute to the advancement and growth of the Acting/Directing and Musical Theatre Majors
- Assist in student recruitment and advise in the selection of the production season
- Mentor students and provide guidance on their academic and professional journeys
- Maintain scholarly/creative activity and contribute to the development of the Theatre Program
- Collaborate with colleagues and participate in committee membership
- Coach or choreograph movement for main-stage productions as needed
Essential Qualifications
- Master of Fine Arts Degree in Acting, Theatre, or related field (must be completed by July 1, 2024)
- Evidence of successful teaching at the university level
- Professional experience as a movement coach or choreographer
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a Nationally certified movement technique (such as Alexander, Laban, Suzuki, or Chekov)
- Experience choreographing plays and musicals
- Ability to teach advanced voice and dialect courses
