Job Summary

As an Afterschool Counselor/Instructor, you will play a vital role in designing and delivering engaging programs for children in grades K-5. You will work collaboratively with our team to create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes social-emotional learning, creativity, and physical activity. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team and contribute to the development of our youth programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Instruction & Facilitation:
    • Teach age-appropriate skills and activities in a progressive sequence.
    • Prepare and submit lesson plans or activities for each session.
    • Run organized and engaging classes that promote participation and creativity.
    • Connect program values and life skills to activities in a developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Provide general supervision, risk management, and downtime activities for youth participants.
    • Develop age-appropriate relationships with program participants and identify individual needs.
    • Assist with participant supervision, attendance tracking, and check-in/check-out procedures.
  • Coaching:
    • Supervise and coach junior staff, providing direction and feedback as needed.
    • Motivate youth and junior staff to participate enthusiastically in activities.
  • Planning & Programmatic Development:
    • Assist with parent orientations, check-in/check-out procedures, and special events.
    • Promote theme days or group traditions to enhance program enjoyment.
    • Ensure participants have safe and appropriate equipment, facilities, and supplies.

Requirements and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Knowledge of youth recreation programs, program planning, and development.
  • Service orientation, judgment and decision-making, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some college or Associate Degree and/or Bachelor's Degree.
