Job Summary

The Project Manager, Technical Services/HV will be responsible for managing all aspects of solar special projects, including project planning, budgeting, buyout, project controls/reporting, scheduling, risk management, and more. This role requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in project management, technical services, and high voltage systems. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully managing complex projects, leading cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance with contract terms and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan, execute, and take responsibility for significant scopes of self-performed work, including sequencing, crew-sizing, productivity goals, and monthly labor spend.
  • Develop and implement safety plans, ensuring a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Oversee preparation of project billings, maximizing cash flow and reducing pay cycles through diligent and strategic billing preparation.
  • Presentation and negotiation of change orders with owners for timely resolution.
  • Negotiate cost-effective subcontract and material purchases, ensuring the best value for the project.
  • Set up and implement job procedures and techniques to assure timely buyout, shop drawing approval, and material delivery.
  • Maintain timely and accurate reporting to management, particularly with regard to cost forecasting and estimated cost at completion.
  • Manage, train, and supervise team members according to company policy, acting as a mentor to younger employees to encourage professional growth and career development.
  • Review contract conditions, ensuring compliance with all contract terms and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise documentation of all significant project events, including accidents, delays, and change orders.
  • Direct preconstruction services and activities, including negotiation, preparation, and issuance of subcontract bid packages.
  • Effectively manage project risk, evaluating probability and severity of risk events and preparing mitigation plans with the project team and operations management.
  • Maintain quality control, including development and implementation of a Site-Specific Quality Management Plan (SSQMP).
  • Avoid or mitigate claims and conflict, ensuring timely resolution of disputed project claims or impacts.
  • Complete all job close-out procedures, including warranty follow-up and project evaluation.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture, or a related field.
  • At least 5-8 years of field construction management experience, including supervisory skills and experience with high voltage systems.
  • Leadership ability, with the capacity to pull together team members from diverse backgrounds and organize them into a cohesive, high-performing project team.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office suite, Bluebeam Revu, and construction ERP's.
  • Fundamental knowledge of contract law and project accounting.
  • Thorough understanding of all project management control systems, including scheduling, cost control, procurement, and estimating.
  • General understanding of utility-scale PV plant construction means, methods, sequencing, and techniques.
  • Ability to travel (minimum 30%) and work in a remote environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with all SOLV Energy departments.
  • Detail-oriented, motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

While not essential, the following qualifications and skills are preferred:

  • Experience with high voltage systems, including substation components and electrical construction.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard tools, such as Primavera P6, MS Project, and Autodesk.
  • Certifications, such as PMP, PE, or CCM, are highly desirable.
  • Experience with solar special projects, including solar repowering, complex repairs, and large-scale incident response and restoration.
