Job Overview

The Principal Engineer - Data Analytics & Data Science will play a critical role in shaping the technical vision, design, and architecture of blithequark's data analysis and reporting landscape. This position will be instrumental in driving the long-term technical strategy, embracing innovation, and providing hands-on leadership as a technical expert for the team. Key Responsibilities

  • Leads and mentors a team of engineers, providing technical guidance, sharing best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Drives current software practices through design reviews and ensures the development of "top-tier" engineering for our services.
  • Works on system design through clear interfaces across multiple components, code reviews, and utilizing data/telemetry to inform decisions.
  • Improves test coverage for services, organizes and implements integration tests, and resolves trouble spots.
  • Ensures testability, compactness/checking, reliability, and practicality, and understands when code is fit to be shared and deployed.
  • Focuses on business needs through a data-driven approach, investigating and advancing automation, reliability, and monitoring for deployed products.
  • Sets the technical vision for data analysis and reporting, aligning with organizational objectives, and provides leadership in directing the overall direction of data analysis technical initiatives.
  • Designs, develops, and enhances complex data models and reporting structures, driving the design and implementation of flexible and efficient data analysis and reporting architectures.
  • Ensures the integrity, security, and performance of data products and reporting solutions by partnering with platforms, data architecture, and service teams.
  • Defines and implements the long-term technical strategy for data analysis, incorporating innovations and industry trends, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop comprehensive data solutions.

Essential Qualifications

  • Demonstrated history with at least 15+ years of hands-on experience in data analysis and reporting roles.
  • 5+ years of experience in leadership or senior roles, showing the ability to effectively guide and lead a team.
  • 5+ years of experience working with Cloud technologies, such as ADLS, Azure Databricks, Flash, Azure Synapse, Universe DB, DBT, and other big data technologies.
  • Exhibited advanced proficiency in data analysis tools, languages, ML, and frameworks (e.g., Conos, PowerBI, SQL, Python, R).
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools to effectively communicate insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, to architect and implement flexible and efficient data analysis solutions.
  • In-depth understanding and practical application of Lakehouse architecture principles, combining the best of data lakes and data warehouses for robust and scalable data management.
  • Advanced SQL skills, with a strong understanding of relational databases and business data, and the ability to write complex SQL queries against multiple data sources.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Relevant industry certifications are a plus.
  • Experience in retail, manufacturing, e-commerce, or supply chain management.
