Job Overview
As a Special Education Program Paraprofessional, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational, physical, safety, and general life skills development of special needs students. You will work closely with instructional staff, specialists, and teachers to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic achievement, social growth, and emotional well-being. Key Responsibilities
- Assist instructional staff, specialists, and teachers in providing individualized support to students with disabilities
- Help students with daily living skills, such as feeding, toileting, and personal care
- Support students with academic tasks, such as reading, writing, and math
- Assist with behavioral interventions and strategies to promote positive behavior
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Observe and record student progress, behavior, and academic achievement
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge
Essential Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience as a teacher's assistant in a teaching environment in or outside a school system or related childcare work
- 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits of college or a passing score on the ParaPro assessment
- Ability to work cooperatively with children and adults
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Desirable Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to work positively with students with disabilities
- Experience working with students with autism, emotional behavioral disorders, or other special needs
- Knowledge of behavioral interventions and strategies to promote positive behavior
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities
- Strong organizational and time management skills
