Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Researching laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda to support the defense of lawsuits filed in Virginia courts
  • Rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department to ensure informed decision-making
  • Preparing and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath
  • Defending cases by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable, to achieve favorable outcomes for GEICO
  • Collaborating with the Claims Department and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination
  • Staying up-to-date with changes in laws, regulations, and industry developments to maintain expertise in insurance defense litigation

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must possess the following essential qualifications:

  • 2-6+ years of experience in related field litigation experience on insurance/defense/and or personal injury
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the Virginia Bar and licensure in good standing to practice law in Virginia
  • Ability to travel as required, including attending trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document files in a clear, concise, and professional manner
  • Strong organization, priority setting, and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to follow complex instructions and resolve conflicts
  • Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following preferred qualifications will be considered an asset:

  • Civil litigation experience, particularly in insurance defense-related litigation
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a professional manner in person, via telephone, and written correspondence/email
