Experienced Proofreader Needed for Final Review of Non-Fiction Book (PDF)
About the Book:
Genre: Non-Fiction (self-help, Christian leadership, personal development, personal growth)
Topic: A practical guide for Christian leaders who seek to help others live intentional, flourishing lives while maintaining their well-being.
Word Count: Approximately 51,000 words
Project Overview:
I am seeking a highly meticulous and experienced proofreader for the final review of my non-fiction book. The book has already been through a comprehensive editing process (developmental and copyediting). The interior design is complete, and I now have the final, formatted PDF pages that are ready for printing. This is the last quality-control check before publication.
Please note: This is a proofreading job, not an editing job. No significant changes to the content, structure, or rewriting of sentences are needed or expected. I require a final check for surface-level errors only.
Scope of Work:
The primary responsibility is to review the formatted pages in the provided PDF for the following errors:
-Typographical errors: Misspellings, punctuation mistakes, double spaces, and other typos.
-Grammar and Syntax: Catching any final grammatical slips that may have been overlooked.
-Formatting Inconsistencies: Checking for errors in layout, including:
-Widows and orphans (single lines of a paragraph separated from the rest on a new page).
-Inconsistent heading styles, spacing, or fonts.
-Incorrect page numbers, headers, and footers.
-Issues with tables, figures, or image placement.
-Consistency: Ensuring consistency in capitalization, hyphenation, numbers, and proper names.
-Obvious Factual Errors: Catching any glaring, easily verifiable errors in dates, names, or simple data points.
Deliverables:
-A fully proofread PDF marked with clear, trackable comments and annotations.
-A brief summary of any major issues discovered (if any).
Ideal Candidate:
-Proven experience specifically with book proofreading, ideally non-fiction titles.
-Exceptional attention to detail and a "fresh pair of eyes" to catch final errors.
-Proficiency with PDF markup tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat's commenting features).
-Familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style (preferred but not required).
-Ability to work efficiently and deliver within the agreed-upon deadline.
How to Apply:
To be considered for this project, please provide the following:
-A brief summary of your relevant book proofreading experience.
-Your proposed fixed price for this project.
-Confirmation that you understand this is a final-stage proofreading task and not a copyedit or developmental edit.
-Confirmation that you are proficient with PDF markup and commenting tools.
I look forward to hearing from you.
