Job Summary
The Senior Donation Coordinator (SDC) serves as a subject matter expert in donation discussions, partnering with Learning and Development, Donation Coordinator Field Trainers, and Donor Operations management to evaluate, develop, and update training plans and materials for Donation Coordinators. The primary responsibility of the Senior Donation Coordinator is speaking with potential donor families about the opportunity and benefits of donating tissue and performing a medical and behavioral screening questionnaire. SDCs train and provide effective coaching/training to Donor Operations staff with the intention of having them meet all regulatory requirements to speak to families about tissue donation opportunities and benefits.
Key Responsibilities
- Donation Discussion Training and Support: Participate as a subject matter expert in evaluating, developing, and updating training plans and materials for Donation Coordinators. Provide effective coaching and training to Donor Operations staff to ensure they meet regulatory requirements.
- Family Care Specialist - Donation Discussion: Conduct in-depth medical screenings of potential tissue donors, communicate with referral source personnel, and determine suitability for tissue recovery based on FDA, AATB, DNWest, and tissue processor guidelines.
- Referrals and Donor Screening: Accept inbound referral calls and emails, assess suitability for organ and tissue donation, and capture all information accurately and completely into donor management software.
- Case Coordination: Review clinical data and case notes, ensure suitability, timely recovery, and maximal yield of donated tissues, and coordinate all aspects required for donation to occur.
- General Team Expectations: Complete all Learning Management System (LMS) assignments on time, attend required trainings and mandatory meetings, and be available to complete chart corrections within a timely manner.
Requirements and Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience with approaching grieving families and securing tissue authorizations at DNWest or an AATB-accredited OPO/Tissue Bank.
- Authorized Cases: A total number of authorized cases year over year averaging a minimum of 375.
- Communication Skills: Skilled in fostering an environment that promotes learning and practicing technical concepts/terms, and able to communicate with clarity and kindness.
- Computer Skills: Ability to effectively maneuver through multiple computer programs operating at the same time while sitting for long hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or an equivalent degree/diploma/certification in an allied health field.
- Certifications: Certified Transplant Preservationist (CTP), Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC), or Certified Tissue Banking Specialist (CTBS).
