Position Overview

This full‑time, remote role focuses on the accurate coding and abstracting of outpatient and ancillary records, specifically within orthopedics, neurosurgery, and general surgery. Core Responsibilities
As a Remote Coding Associate II, you will be the guardian of data integrity and reimbursement accuracy for a high‑volume outpatient environment. Your daily duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Accurate Coding: Apply CPT, HCPCS, and ICD‑10‑CM codes to ambulatory surgery, observation stays, and emergency department encounters, ensuring compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and private payer guidelines.
- Abstracting & Data Extraction: Review operative notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries to extract pertinent clinical information for coding and quality reporting.
- Auditing & Review: Perform internal audits on a regular basis to verify coding accuracy, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions to improve documentation and coding practices.
- Collaboration: Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, HIM staff, and billing teams to resolve documentation gaps and clarify clinical details.

Essential Qualifications

- At least 1 year of experience coding ancillary/outpatient records, with demonstrated proficiency in ambulatory surgery, observation, or emergency department coding.
- Current certification as a Certified Coding Associate (CCA) from AHIMA or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC at the time of hire.
- Demonstrated ability to assign accurate CPT codes and apply ICD‑10‑CM diagnoses for orthopedic, neurosurgical, and general surgical procedures.
- Proficiency with coding software platforms, EMR systems, and data‑validation tools.
- Reliable high‑speed broadband internet, a dedicated workspace, and a personal cell phone for secure communication.
- Residency in one of the approved states: OR, WA, CA, ID, NV, UT, CO, AZ, NM, OK, TX, KY, TN, GA, NC, FL, ME, IL, MI, AK, MT.
