Job Overview

As a CEAE Undergrad Teaching Fellow, you will have the opportunity to work remotely and support faculty instructors in delivering high-quality education to undergraduate students in civil, environmental, and architectural engineering courses. Your primary responsibilities will include helping faculty administer activities such as group work and problem-solving, enhancing student learning by interacting with students during class periods, and guiding students to maximize concept mastery. This is a temporary, part-time position that requires a strong and diverse skillset, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated mastery of course content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help faculty administer activities such as group work, problem-solving, and other engaging learning experiences to improve student learning and engagement in key engineering courses (35%)
  • Enhance student learning by interacting with students during class periods, guiding them to maximize concept mastery, and providing individualized support as needed (65%)
  • Meet with the instructor and possibly facilitate help sessions outside of regular class periods to ensure students receive adequate support
  • Collaborate with faculty instructors to develop and implement effective teaching strategies and materials
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay up-to-date with industry trends

Required Qualifications

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Must have taken the specified course or an equivalent class and earned at least a 'B' in the course
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with students, faculty, and staff
  • Demonstrated mastery of course content, with a deep understanding of civil, environmental, and architectural engineering principles and concepts
  • Physical or virtual presence in the course (approximately 3 hours/week for a 3-credit course) and may demand approximately 2 hours/week outside of the class
  • Must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours during the semester term of the appointment, or meet one of the alternative enrollment requirements

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Teaching or tutoring experience at a university or college setting, with a proven track record of effectively supporting student learning
  • Earned an 'A' in the course, demonstrating exceptional mastery of the subject matter
  • Experience with remote or online teaching, with the ability to adapt to new technologies and learning platforms
