As an Instructor, GED/HSED Communications, you will be responsible for:- Teaching basic communication courses levels 1-6, GED classes in an accelerated GED program, and participating in division and department activities.
- Developing and teaching concepts and strategies for a variety of courses, including online and blended formats.
- Participating in department and advisory meetings, department and college functions, course and curriculum development, and staff development.
- Conducting open labs, student advising, student outcome assessment, and quality review assessment and implementation.
- Recruiting and retaining students, promoting educational opportunities at MATC, and developing relationships with business and industry.
- Maintaining certification, continuing professional development, and staying current in the field.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must possess:- A Bachelor's degree (required) or higher in English/Communication with a minimum of 18 semester credits in English/Communication Instruction OR Bachelor's degree or higher in any field with a minimum of 18 semester credits in English/Communications and any combination of 12 credits in English/Language Arts, Communications, Journalism, Speech, Linguistics, Adult Literacy, Special Education, Reading, or Curriculum and Instruction for a total of 30 credits overall.
- At least three (3) total years of teaching experience, including at least one (1) total year teaching English/Communication and at least one (1) year/2,000 hours of non-teaching experience.
- Native or native-like fluency in English.
- Experience in teaching and/or developing curriculum in a variety of classroom environments, including in-person and online.
- Ability to develop and maintain curriculum currency, working knowledge of computers and software related to instructional areas, and knowledge of or willingness to learn Blackboard or similar learning management system (LMS).
- Knowledge of assessment of student academic competency attainment, ability to relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social, and educational backgrounds, and commitment to embracing and demonstrating Standards of Teaching Excellence and the MATC Career Essentials.
