Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Program Coordinator for Tutoring Services to join our team at San Jose State University. As a key member of the Peer Connections team, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing tutoring services that support student transition and retention. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the development, planning, coordination, and assessment of the tutoring program designed to support student transition and retention.
- Stay informed through higher education literature and research regarding retention and institutional policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with campus entities on events that promote tutoring and academic success.
- Review and update documentation for peer educators to be used during training and as resources throughout the year.
- Collaborate with other departments and colleges to provide effective learning assistance and represent Peer Connections as requested on committees and related activities that focus on tutoring issues.
- Support the Program Director with recruitment, hiring, training, directing, supervision, and evaluation of undergraduate and graduate student interns.
- Collaborate to design and implement tutor training that meets International Standards of the College, Reading, and Learning Association (CRLA) including theoretical and practical applications.
- Assist with the coordination of the CRLA International Tutor Training program certification for Peer Connections.
- Monitor and manage student employee work hours to ensure they are not exceeding allowable work hours in a week.
- Support the coordination of the department's use of EAB (Spartan Connect) for scheduling, tutoring, and reporting.
- Receive, process, and direct all communications (mail, email, phone calls) to appropriate persons in the unit or to other departments.
- Collect, analyze, and maintain data to be used for statistical reporting for the Program Director.
- Assist in the development of culturally appropriate and accessible marketing and publicity materials such as flyers, emails, newsletters, posters, presentations, brochures, videos, websites, and social media platforms.
- Write, edit, and manage tutoring content on the center website and social media platforms.
Essential Qualifications
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
- Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
- A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree.
- Experience with tutoring on a college campus.
- Experience working with a diverse student population.
