Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Upper Level Math Tutor to join our team of dedicated instructors. As a part-time Sylvan Instructor, you will be trained on the Sylvan curriculum and given the tools to teach in a small group, 3:1 setting. You will provide personalized instruction in Math and SAT/ACT prep, working with students of all levels who need assistance on material ranging from Algebra to Calculus. With evening and weekend hours available, this role offers the flexibility to balance your work and personal life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach using Sylvan-based programs, providing personalized instruction to students in a small group setting
  • Supervise, interact with, and motivate students during instruction hours while they work with equipment and materials
  • Reward students for completed assignments and evaluate and document student progress
  • Communicate student needs to the center director and maintain a positive attitude, demonstrating enthusiasm for teaching and Sylvan
  • Inspire students, develop rapport with them, and establish a fun learning environment
  • Utilize strong communication skills and the ability to multi-task, ensuring a productive and engaging learning experience

Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, such as Mathematics or Education
  • Advanced knowledge and familiarity with teaching or tutoring in the areas of calculus, algebra 1 & 2, geometry, and trigonometry
  • At least 2 years of teaching or tutoring experience, preferably in an upper-level math setting
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with students, parents, and colleagues
  • The ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's Degree in Mathematics or a related field
  • Experience working with students of varying skill levels and learning styles
  • Familiarity with Sylvan-based programs and curriculum
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and reports
