Position Overview

As a Remote Pharmacy Technician Representative for Accredo Specialty Pharmacy, you will :

  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients, helping them navigate the complexities of specialty medication access.
  • Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, insurance carriers, and internal departments to ensure accurate prescription processing and timely shipment.
  • Leverage cutting‑edge pharmacy software and data‑entry tools to maintain flawless records and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Interaction & Support (40% of daily activity)

  • Inbound & outbound calls: Greet patients, verify demographics, collect insurance information, and schedule the first shipment of medication.
  • Education: Explain medication coverage, dosing schedules, and answer common questions about specialty drug therapy.
  • Issue resolution: Investigate and rectify barriers such as prior authorizations, claim denials, or pharmacy‑related inquiries by liaising with pharmacists, prescribers, and payors.
  • Follow‑up: Provide continuous support throughout the therapy journey, ensuring patients receive refills, updates, and necessary clinical reminders.

Prescription Processing & Data Management (35% of daily activity)

  • Accurately enter prescription information into Accredo’s proprietary pharmacy management system.
  • Validate medication eligibility, dosage calculations, and insurance coverage before processing.
  • Generate and transmit prescription requests to provider offices, ensuring all required documentation is attached.
  • Maintain meticulous audit trails for compliance with HIPAA, FDA, and state pharmacy regulations.

Provider & Payer Coordination (15% of daily activity)

  • Initiate outbound calls to physicians’ offices to obtain missing prescription details or clarify dosage instructions.
  • Collaborate with insurance representatives to secure prior authorizations and resolve benefit inquiries.
  • Document all communication in the patient’s electronic record for future reference.

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement (10% of daily activity)

  • Identify workflow bottlenecks and suggest process enhancements to supervisors.
  • Participate in weekly virtual team huddles and quality‑assurance reviews.
  • Stay current with specialty medication trends, regulatory updates, and Evernorth’s technology platforms.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; additional coursework in pharmacy, health care, or related fields is a plus.
  • License: Valid Pharmacy Technician license, certification, or registration as mandated by Arizona and Pennsylvania state law.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience, preferably in a call‑center or health‑care support environment.
  • Technical proficiency: Strong computer and data‑entry skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, and a comfort level with learning new pharmacy software platforms.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities; ability to convey complex information clearly to patients and providers.
