About ThinkShout – A Purpose‑Driven Digital Agency

ThinkShout is a certified B Corp that lives at the intersection of technology, design, and social impact. Our mission‑first clients include the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Humane Society of the United States, the World Resources Institute, and Demos—organizations that are shaping policy, protecting the planet, and championing justice. As a digital‑first agency, we specialize in delivering world‑class web development, user‑experience design, strategic consulting, and integrated campaign support that amplifies the voice of progressive nonprofits and advocacy groups.

Our culture is grounded in anti‑racist principles, equity, and a relentless commitment to justice. Every project we undertake is an opportunity to put values into practice, ensuring that the technology we build is inclusive, accessible, and amplifies under‑represented communities. Joining ThinkShout means becoming part of a collaborative network of passionate professionals who are dedicated not only to outstanding work but also to making the world a better place.

Why This Contractor Role Is Unique

We are seeking self‑motivated, highly skilled professionals who can step into a remote, independent contractor capacity across four core disciplines: Design, Web Development, Project Management, and Strategy. This is not a traditional full‑time position; instead, it is an invitation to join our talent roster and be matched with projects that align with your expertise, availability, and passion for social change. ThinkShout offers a rolling application process, competitive compensation bands, and the flexibility to work with multiple clients while maintaining your own professional independence.

Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Do

Once you’re added to our contractor pool, you’ll be considered for a variety of assignments. Depending on the project, your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Design: Conceptualize and deliver visual assets, UI mockups, and brand‑aligned graphics that resonate with target audiences.
  • Web Development: Build, test, and deploy responsive websites and web applications using modern frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, WordPress, Drupal) while ensuring accessibility standards (WCAG) are met.
  • Project Management: Define project scopes, timelines, and deliverables; coordinate cross‑functional teams; and maintain clear communication channels with stakeholders.
  • Strategy: Conduct research, develop digital campaigns, and provide data‑driven recommendations that advance client advocacy goals.
  • Collaborate remotely with ThinkShout’s full‑time staff, ensuring seamless integration of contractor work into larger project workflows.
  • Adhere to anti‑racist and equity‑focused methodologies throughout the creative and execution process.
  • Maintain meticulous records of hours, deliverables, and project milestones for transparent invoicing.

Essential Qualifications – What We Need From You

To thrive in this remote contractor role, you should bring a blend of technical proficiency, strategic thinking, and a deep commitment to social justice:

  • 2–5+ years of professional experience in at least one of the targeted disciplines (Design, Web Development, Project Management, Strategy).
  • Demonstrated portfolio or case studies that showcase work done for nonprofit, advocacy, or mission‑driven organizations.
  • Strong personal or professional experience with anti‑racist practices, equity‑centered design, or inclusive development.
  • Proven ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and communicate clearly in a fully remote environment.
  • Comfortable using collaboration tools such as Slack, Asana, Trello, Google Workspace, and Figma.
  • Ability to complete a W‑9 form and sign an Independent Contractor Agreement that outlines the legal relationship.

Preferred Qualifications – What Will Set You Apart

  • Experience with progressive campaigns, public policy advocacy, or environmental justice initiatives.
  • Advanced certifications in UX/UI design, front‑end development, Agile project management, or strategic communication.
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing tools (e.g., Axe, Lighthouse) and a track record of delivering WCAG‑compliant solutions.
  • Fluency in multiple languages or experience working with multicultural audiences.
  • Previous experience as an independent contractor or freelancer for mission‑driven clients.

Core Skills & Competencies for Success

  • Technical Proficiency: Mastery of design software (Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite) or development stacks (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, APIs, CMS platforms).
  • Strategic Insight: Ability to translate client objectives into actionable digital solutions that drive measurable impact.
  • Communication: Clear, concise, and empathetic written and verbal communication, especially when collaborating across time zones.
  • Project Discipline: Strong organizational habits, task prioritization, and the capacity to manage multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Equity Lens: Consistent application of anti‑racist frameworks, inclusive language, and culturally responsive design principles.
  • Problem‑Solving: Innovative thinking, resilience in the face of ambiguity, and a proactive approach to overcoming technical or strategic challenges.

Compensation, Perks, & Benefits

ThinkShout values equitable compensation for all contributors. When a project aligns with your skill set, we will provide you with a clear pay band that reflects market rates for the specific discipline and scope of work. While we do not offer traditional employee benefits (such as health insurance or retirement plans) to contractors, we do provide:

  • Transparent hourly or project‑based rates disclosed up front.
  • Timely payments through direct deposit or preferred invoicing methods.
  • Opportunities for professional development through access to webinars, industry conferences, and mentorship from senior ThinkShout staff.
  • Inclusive, supportive community of like‑minded professionals dedicated to social impact.
  • Flexible scheduling that respects your personal commitments and allows you to work from anywhere.

Work Environment & Company Culture

At ThinkShout, remote work is not just a policy—it’s a philosophy. Our team members operate across continents, leveraging digital collaboration tools to stay connected, accountable, and creatively inspired. Key cultural pillars include:

  • Purpose‑Driven Collaboration: Projects are selected for their alignment with social justice and environmental stewardship.
  • Continuous Learning: Regular knowledge‑share sessions, skill‑building workshops, and internal mentorship circles.
  • Transparency & Trust: Open communication about project goals, timelines, and financial arrangements.
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion: Ongoing commitment to anti‑racist practices, equitable hiring, and inclusive decision‑making.
  • Work‑Life Integration: Emphasis on boundaries, mental health, and the freedom to structure your day in a way that maximizes productivity and wellbeing.

Career Growth & Learning Opportunities

Even though this role is contract‑based, ThinkShout invests in your professional growth. Contractors who consistently deliver high‑quality work may receive:

  • Priority access to higher‑value, longer‑term projects with marquee nonprofit clients.
  • Mentorship from senior designers, developers, and strategists to deepen expertise.
  • Invitation to contribute to internal thought‑leadership pieces, webinars, and public‑facing case studies.
  • Opportunities to shape agency processes, especially around equity, accessibility, and anti‑racist methodologies.

Application Process & Next Steps

Our application process is straightforward and designed to respect your time:

  1. Submit your updated portfolio, resume, and a brief cover letter outlining your experience with progressive causes and your preferred discipline(s).
  2. If your profile matches an upcoming project, a member of our talent acquisition team will reach out with specific details, including scope, timeline, and compensation band.
  3. You will review the Independent Contractor Agreement, complete a W‑9, and, upon mutual agreement, begin work on the selected assignment.

Please note that due to the high volume of applicants, we may not be able to respond individually to every submission. Rest assured, if a project aligns with your expertise and availability, we will contact you directly.

Join a Community That Values Impact

If you are a creative problem‑solver who wants to apply your talents to meaningful work, we would love to hear from you—whether or not you feel you meet every single requirement. ThinkShout is constantly seeking passionate individuals who share our vision of a more equitable, just, and sustainable world.
