Why This Role Is a Game‑Changer
Project engineering within FMCG is a fast‑paced, high‑visibility discipline that directly influences product availability, brand reputation, and bottom‑line performance. As a Remote Project Engineer, you will:
- Lead feasibility studies that determine the viability of new production lines, equipment upgrades, and process optimizations.
- Translate conceptual designs into detailed CAD models, ensuring precision and compliance with industry standards.
- Collaborate with Programme Managers, local site teams, and external vendors to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Oversee compliance related to food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory frameworks specific to confectionery and snack manufacturing.
- Guide projects from initial concept through to commissioning and hand‑over, and optionally stay on for the delivery phase to see the solution through to full operational status.
Core Responsibilities
- Feasibility & Risk Analysis: Conduct comprehensive studies that evaluate technical, financial, and environmental aspects of proposed projects. Produce clear reports outlining risk mitigation strategies and recommended pathways.
- CAD Design & Documentation: Develop high‑fidelity 2D and 3D models using industry‑standard CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor). Produce drawing packages, Bill of Materials (BOM), and technical specifications for manufacturing teams.
- Project Planning & Scheduling: Create detailed project timelines, milestone charts, and resource allocation plans. Adjust plans swiftly in response to changing priorities or unexpected constraints.
- Liaison & Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary technical liaison between remote engineering teams, on‑site personnel, Programme Managers, and external suppliers. Ensure all parties are aligned on expectations, deliverables, and deadlines.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance: Verify that all designs comply with relevant FMCG standards (e.g., ISO 22000, BRC, HACCP). Conduct regular reviews and audits to maintain product integrity and regulatory adherence.
- Site Visit Coordination: Organise and participate in planned site visits, providing on‑the‑ground support for design validation, installation oversight, and stakeholder workshops.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimisation, cost reduction, and sustainability improvements. Share best practices across the global engineering community.
- Documentation & Knowledge Transfer: Maintain accurate project records, lessons‑learned logs, and hand‑over documentation to facilitate seamless transition to operations teams.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on project engineering experience within the FMCG sector, preferably in confectionery, snack, or similar food‑processing environments.
- CAD Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in Computer‑Aided Design tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent) with a portfolio of completed design projects.
- Feasibility Study Expertise: Proven ability to conduct and present technical and financial feasibility analyses, including risk assessments and cost‑benefit evaluations.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with food‑industry regulations, quality standards, and production processes specific to fast‑moving consumer goods.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities, enabling clear articulation of technical concepts to both engineering and non‑technical audiences.
- Adaptability: Demonstrated resilience and flexibility in managing shifting project scopes, timelines, and stakeholder expectations.
Preferred (But Not Mandatory) Credentials
