About the Position: This position is located at Keller Army Community Hospital, 900 Washington Road West Point, NY 10996 in the Department of Specialty Care ; Audiology Service.

Duties
Help
• Provides audiometric testing and audiology services to members at the Medical Treatment Facility within Defense Health agency serving department or area of responsibility.
• Performs hearing conservation services; and, independently selects, administers and interprets the full range of consultative and diagnostic procedures to patients of all ages.
• Works with a wide variety hearing disorders in neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adult and geriatric patients.
• Provides consultative assistance to other military medical treatment facilities in the area as needed on diagnostic site of lesion testing and rehabilitative audiology.
• Maintains a working knowledge of techniques used to evaluate the vestibular system in order to diagnose and treat individuals with dizziness and balance disorders.
• Manages the Hearing Program and the Hearing Readiness Support for the organization.
• Uses appropriate regulatory guidance to determine eligibility for care as it relates to active duty, retired service members and their families.
• Schedules direct and indirect audiology related service activities; and, documents professional contacts and clinical reports in a timely manner.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Required to be credentialed through the Hospital Credentials Committee as an Audiologist in accordance with DHA and other applicable regulations and directives.
• This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
• Lifting up to 30 pounds may be required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Audiologist:
Education: Successful completion of a graduate or higher-level graduate degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice. The education program must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (external link) (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (external link) (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts with your application package).
License: A full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Audiology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (You must provide a copy of your license as part of your application package).
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience:One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating audiology patients; developing audiology treatment plans; and counseling or educating patients on audiology treatment plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
