Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our team at blithequark. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and developing reliable data pipelines and intuitive data products that enable our partners to use data in a powerful and efficient way. You will work on various data technologies such as Flash, Voila, Flank, Kafka, and others to build smart, scalable, and robust data pipelines, write ETL tasks to collect and aggregate data, and build excellent data models that describe the functionality, interactions, and usage of blithequark's cloud framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop reliable data pipelines and intuitive data products that enable partners to use data in a powerful and efficient way
  • Work on various data technologies such as Flash, Voila, Flank, Kafka, and others to build smart, scalable, and robust data pipelines
  • Write ETL tasks to collect and aggregate data
  • Build excellent data models that describe the functionality, interactions, and usage of blithequark's cloud framework
  • Develop topic expertise in the cloud infrastructure space at blithequark
  • Act as a thought partner to the platform engineering team, understand their challenges, and make bold recommendations that empower them with data solutions to scale blithequark's infrastructure and tools efficiently
  • Maintain and refactor existing datasets and pipelines to support a broader range of use cases
  • Enable smart analysis by building robust, reliable, and meaningful datasets that can power various analytical methods such as regression, classification, clustering, etc.
  • Collaborate with a talented team of data engineers with diverse skill sets, working closely with analysis engineering and data science partners

Essential Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in a relevant field
  • At least 2 years of experience in a related field
  • Strong expertise in distributed data processing and data pipeline design
  • Proficiency in at least one of Java, Python, or Scala, with at least 10 years of programming/data engineering experience
  • Comfortable with complex SQL
  • Experience with designing data pipelines using big data technologies (Hive, Voila, Flash, Flank) on large-scale datasets
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud resources (S3, EC2, RDS, etc.)
  • Ability to take ambiguous requirements and solidify them into flexible data solutions
  • Passion for working independently, demonstrating excellence, and learning new technologies and methodologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms and technologies
  • Knowledge of data governance and data quality best practices
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems such as Git
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
