Day - 08 Hour (United States of America) This is a Stanford Health Care job. A Brief Overview Clinical Audiology externs provide developmentally appropriate audiological screening, diagnostic and rehabilitation services including hearing instrument dispensing services for patients under direct supervision of California State Licensed Dispensing Audiologists. Responsibilities include administering a variety of audiometric tests designed to determine patient's hearing range and the degree, site, and nature of damage to auditory system, dictation of findings into the medical record as well as correspondence with referring and insurance entities to obtain adequate follow-up and required authorizations. Under the guidance of the department manager and with direct supervision, the Audiology Extern typically performs routine patient care and is responsible for all clinical aspects for assigned patient's care, including evaluation and treatment planning. They are not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, tasks, and responsibilities. • Audiology externs may also perform other duties as assigned. • Audiology externs must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings. • Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct. • Administers and interprets comprehensive auditory evaluations, vestibular evaluations, and cochlear implant evaluations. Effectively communicates impressions and recommendations to referral sources and family. • Assesses need for and recommends appropriate auditory rehabilitation including but not limited to medical referrals, amplification needs, educational needs, and associated therapeutic intervention. • Counsels patient and families in regard to evaluation findings and recommendations. Dispenses recommended assistive equipment. • Maintains clear understanding of documentation required for authorization and billing purposes. • Participates in research studies for publication and conference entries. • Prepares reports on diagnostic findings, treatments used, and patient progress. Education Qualifications • Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. • Completion of clinical rotations at home university. Must be in final year of Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program. • California License in Audiology Temporary California license in the form of a Required Professional Experience (RPE) license preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or licensure/certification. • * Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. • * Ability to determine auditory rehabilitation needs. • * Ability to develop and document clearly and accurately treatment goals that are realistic, measurable, appropriate, functionally based and that include patient/family input. • * Ability to provide appropriate care and progress treatment based on professional standards of practice, and on the needs of the specific individual, including age and developmental considerations, cultural and psychosocial issues, precautions, and medical condition. • * Ability to resolve conflicts that interfere with patient care or work responsibilities in a respectful and constructive manner. • * Ability to use sound reasoning to determine degree and extent of patient evaluation required. • * Knowledge of Audiological testing techniques, methods and apparatus. • * Knowledge of operation and care of audiological equipment. • * Knowledge of pathologies and injuries that result in physical impairment. • * Knowledge of principles, methods, equipment and theory of the practice of clinical specialty. Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $26.99 - $34.40 per hour The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
