Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Data Entry Operator to join our Clinical Laboratory team on a part-time, evening basis. As a Data Entry Operator, you will play a critical role in preparing specimens for analysis, performing record-keeping and data entry activities, and providing clerical support to our laboratory operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Verify the identification of patient specimens and requests for tests to ensure accuracy and compliance with laboratory protocols
  • Prepare and accession samples for send-out testing to various locations, ensuring timely and efficient processing
  • Report critical values to medical staff, including nurses and providers, to ensure prompt and effective patient care
  • Sort specimens with appropriate labeling and identification for distribution to designated laboratories for testing
  • Perform pertinent data entry and retrieval functions using automated and/or manual systems, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records
  • Centrifuge and decant specimens, following laboratory safety policies and procedures to ensure a clean and safe environment
  • Maintain laboratory records in accordance with established procedures and protocols, including the generation, separation, sorting, and distribution of reports
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and distribute supplies as needed, ensuring efficient laboratory operations
  • Follow laboratory safety policies, including the use of personal protective equipment, to maintain a safe and healthy work environment
  • Perform laboratory assignments and support the department in maintaining an efficient workflow
  • Notify appropriate personnel in cases of unacceptable samples, recording all specific information in the department incident log
  • Prioritize work in an efficient manner, registering to acquire appropriate billing account numbers for date of service and accessioning pathology specimens to acquire laboratory accession case numbers in a timely and accurate manner
  • Resolve problems with specimen receipt and appropriateness of test requisitions orders, ensuring prompt and effective resolution
  • Accurately monitor pertinent patient demographics and information, reporting to the appropriate designated department as needed
  • Adhere to the laboratory's Quality Assurance policies and procedures, following OSHA regulations for PPE and maintaining a clean and safe environment
  • Document any specimen receipt issues and hospital and laboratory computer systems for registration and/or accessioning, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records
  • Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient care

Essential Qualifications

To qualify for this role, you must have:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent
  • General office skills, including typing, filing, and phone etiquette
  • General computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory information systems
  • General organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and standard precautions, with a commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have:

  • An Associate's Degree in Business or a related field
  • 1-2 years of related experience in a laboratory or healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding/billing/registration/insurance principles
  • Ability to utilize hospital and laboratory computer systems for registration and/or accessioning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization

Compensation and Benefits

blithequark offers a competitive salary range for this role, with a hourly rate of $23.46 - $23.46.
