Job DescriptionFor over 20 years, Smartsheet has helped people and teams achieve-well, anything. From seamless work management to smart, scalable solutions, we've always worked with flow. We're building tools that empower teams to automate the manual, uncover insights, and scale smarter. But more than that, we're creating space- space to think big, take action, and unlock the kind of work that truly matters. Because when challenge meets purpose, and passion turns into progress, that's magic at work, and it's what we show up for everyday.
Smartsheet is seeking a Manager, L&C Instructional Design. As the Manager, L&C Instructional Design, you will lead a team of instructional designers supporting both customer and internal education initiatives. Your team will develop learning experiences that span self-paced eLearning, instructor-led training (ILT), virtual instructor-led training (vILT), and enablement materials for employees. You will partner cross-functionally with product, marketing, customer excellence, and readiness teams to support initiatives that help customers and internal stakeholders realize the full value of Smartsheet.
This is a strategic and hands-on role that combines learning design expertise, people leadership, and operational excellence. You'll help shape the future of Smartsheet learning content-internally and externally.
Our Learning & Content team creates clear, engaging resources that help customers and internal teams understand and use our technology. By providing effective documentation and training, we drive product adoption, improve retention, and support scalable processes.
This role is part of the GTM Readiness & Enablement organization and will report directly to the Director, Learning & Content. It is remote-eligible and based in the US.
You Will:
Lead and develop a team of instructional designers focused on creating customer-facing and internal learning content
Build and evolve a comprehensive instructional design strategy that aligns with product launches, enablement goals, and customer education needs
Oversee the development and continuous improvement of Smartsheet University's instructor-led training (ILT) and eLearning curriculum
Support internal learning programs for onboarding, role-based training, and ongoing readiness for teams such as Customer Success, Technical Support, Professional Services, and more
Establish standards and best practices for instructional design and content development, ensuring consistent quality and learner impact
Ensure deliverables meet deadlines, accessibility guidelines, and brand standards
Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders across the company to define learning objectives, gather requirements, and validate solutions
Analyze learning effectiveness using models such as Kirkpatrick's Four Levels, making data-driven recommendations for improvement
Guide your team in applying modern adult learning principles, interactivity, and inclusive design across learning formats
Drive scalability by establishing repeatable processes, content templates, and content reuse strategies
Manage team capacity and resourcing for multiple concurrent initiatives
You Have:
5+ years of experience in instructional design, learning & development, or educational content creation
2+ years of people leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management
Experience designing for both external audiences (customers) and internal stakeholders (employees or partners)
Deep knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design methodologies, and learning technologies (LMS, authoring tools like Articulate 360, SCORM, etc.)
Strong project management skills; able to lead multiple initiatives and navigate shifting priorities
Demonstrated ability to partner across product, marketing, support, and enablement teams
Experience gathering requirements and content from subject matter experts (SMEs)
Familiarity with measuring the effectiveness of learning solutions, including knowledge checks, behavior change, and business outcomes
Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
Experience with tools like Smartsheet, Articulate Rise/Storyline, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or video editing software is a plus
