Description of Work Are you looking for a dynamic work environment where you can grow and make an impact? The Department of Natural and Cultural Resources is seeking an experienced and detailed-oriented Atlantic Conservation Coalition (ACC) Community Engagement Specialist. The ACC Community Engagement Specialist will lead community outreach and engagement activities and will participate in strategic partnerships to leverage ACC project outcomes and maximize co-benefits of CPRG efforts. This position will promote community planning, stakeholder engagement, partnership building, co-production of nature-based solutions related to ACC projects, and strategic internal and external communications. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences This position is deemed eligible for hybrid telework under DNCR’s Telework Policy. Recruitment Range: $58,613 - $100,000 Annually ***Candidate has the flexibility to work in either Dare County or Wake County office location. Management Prefers: Knowledge in engaging agencies and organizations that provide nature-based resiliency technical assistance and grants. Existing relationships with governmental and non-governmental community organizations in North Carolina. Experience engaging with and/or building watershed and landscape partnerships in coastal NC, SC, VA or MD. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Experience conveying complex ideas to everyday audiences verbally or in writing. Knowledge of public policy and planning principles that support climate and natural hazards resilience for communities and natural and working land managers. Skilled in building and supporting ongoing relationships with different government agencies, stakeholders, or non-governmental organizations. Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution AND three (3) years progressively responsible experience related to the area of assignment; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. The purpose of the Office of the Secretary is to set policy, implement statutory responsibilities, establish strategic goals and excellence, supervise operations and public information activities of the department to assure departmental programs serve the needs of the people of North Carolina. Additional responsibilities of the office include coordination of the department’s boards and commissions and legislative planning for the agency. The Atlantic Conservation Coalition office oversees the implementation of the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Governor Cooper's Executive Order 305 (An Order to Protect and Restore North Carolina's Critical Natural and Working Lands). The application proposes 21 shovel-ready projects to protect and restore high-carbon coastal habitats and peatlands to maximize carbon sequestration and coastal resilience benefits, and protect, restore, and develop agricultural and forest land, promoting sustainable forestry management practices to increase carbon sequestration.
