Genetic Counseling Assistant
Position Summary
Genome Medical is searching for a Genetic Counseling Assistant (GCA) - a motivated, detail-oriented individual passionate about supporting high-quality, patient-centered genetic care. The ideal candidate will have a background in genetics, biology, psychology, or a related field and a strong interest in learning directly from genetic counselors in a telehealth environment.
The GCA plays a vital role in enhancing the patient experience by assisting genetic counselors, managing pre- and post-appointment tasks, and ensuring efficient accurate communication between patients, providers, and partners. This role requires adaptability, professionalism and the ability to balance time-sensitive responsibility with empathy and precision.
GCAs collaborate closely with other members of the GCA team and work in partnership with Genetic Counselors, team leads, and other Genome Medical staff to deliver exceptional care and streamline clinical operations.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
• Prepare genetic counseling summaries, appointment reports, and supporting documents.
• Contact patients prior to appointments to gather personal and family medical history.
• Verify appointment details for accuracy (session length, appointment type, specialty, etc.).
• Escalate and triage cases appropriately to other departments or team members.
• Ensure all communication complies with HIPAA standards across phone, chat, and email.
• Manage the complete patient experience, from initial referral to final results, with a focus on prioritizing urgent needs.
• Facilitate external medical referrals and follow-up coordination as needed.
• Assist with pedigree generation, lab order entry, and sample coordination.
• Prepare and submit insurance pre-authorizations and required documentation.
• Track and route test results, communicating updates to patients and providers.
• Participate in ongoing learning sessions and contribute to process improvement efforts.
• Maintain strong communication and relationships with outside physicians, labs, clients, and partners.
• Consistently meet quality, productivity, and efficiency goals.
• Identify and suggest opportunities for workflow enhancements and team efficiency.
$40,560 - $45,000 a year

Requirements and Qualifications
Education & Experience
Associate's degree in genetics, biology, psychology, or a related field and/or 2 years of experience in genetic counseling support or other clinical settings. A Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred.
Compliance & Ethics
Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and quality care in all interactions.

Proficient in Google Workspace, Zoom, and pedigree drawing or electronic health record (EHR) software; comfortable navigating multiple digital tools and systems simultaneously.
