Commercial Auto Underwriter

They are seeking Commercial Auto Underwriters for their Small Medium and Enterprise (SME) commercial insurance business unit, where the role involves assessing risk, underwriting commercial auto business, and maintaining strong broker relationships.

Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate risk for new and existing business (IRCA)
• Assist more junior underwriters with applying corporate underwriting standards and share knowledge and skills with others in the branch (Intermediate); share knowledge and skills with others in the branch (Junior)
• Analyze reports to determine adequate exposure and loss rating
• Maintain awareness of market trends, pricing levels and policy form amendments
• Negotiate renewal terms for the retention of business
• Utilize loss control and risk management practices in the underwriting process
• Respond to inquiries from brokers regarding modification to policy files in a prompt and efficient manner
• Work with brokers to develop new business
• Develop and maintain excellent broker relationships and management of assigned broker portfolio
• Provide above average customer service

Skills

• 1–3 years of experience in the insurance industry; exposure to commercial auto underwriting is an asset
• Foundational underwriting skills and a strong appetite for learning and growth
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational and administrative skills
• Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and adaptable
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to meet deadlines and perform effectively under pressure
• 3–5 years of commercial auto underwriting experience, including IRCA
• Demonstrated technical capability to independently manage a portfolio
• Ability to provide guidance to junior underwriters
• CIP designation in progress or completed (preferred)
• Knowledge of RTM is an asset
