Historian Needed for Fictional Early 2000s
Celebrity Lore (World-Building Project)
Hi there! I am currently in the development phase of a new novel and am looking for a talented creative writer to help me build out deep, realistic lore for a set of fictional celebrities. This is a world-building project where we will be creating "artifacts" (like magazine articles and wiki pages) to flesh out the backstories of these characters.
The setting is strictly 2003/2004. I need someone who doesn't just remember this era but deeply understands the nuances of it. We are talking about the height of paparazzi culture, the "Bennifer" era, The O.C., TRL, low-rise jeans, and flip phones. The tone needs to move away from modern, polished PR of 2026 Celebrity and embrace the messy, chaotic, and glamorous energy of early 2000s Hollywood.
I have created detailed templates for several specific deliverables. I will provide the character details, and I need you to bring them to life using your writing skills and knowledge of the entertainment industry.
What I'm Looking For:
You should understand how the entertainment industry actually works (casting, production companies, press tours, award show politics).
You know the difference between 2003 fashion and 2008 fashion. You understand the specific slang and celebrity dynamics of the early aughts.
You can switch voices easily-from the objective tone of a Wikipedia page to the snarky tone of a tabloid.
Collaboration Style:
Google Docs is a must! We will be working entirely in Google Docs. I view this as a partnership! I want to be able to leave comments, see your edits live, and brainstorm together in the doc.
To Apply:
Please answer the following question in your proposal: What is one specific pop culture event or trend from 2002/2003/2004/2005 that you think defines the era, and why?
