Assistant Managing Attorney (Legal Dispute and Resolution Manager 3)

This recruitment will be used to fill two positions. Our mission... The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) is a progressive business regulatory state agency dedicated to the mission of protecting and serving Oregon's consumers and workers while supporting a positive business climate. The department administers state laws and rules governing workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, financial institutions, insurance companies and building codes. The department has consumer protection and education programs, offices, and ombuds to help consumers, injured workers, and businesses. These positions are with the Workers' Compensation Board (WCB). WCB provides timely and impartial resolution of disputes arising under the Workers' Compensation Law and Oregon Safe Employment Act. These are management service positions and are not represented by a union. These positions are eligible to telework on a part-time basis once the incumbents have gained the proficiency to perform work independently. However, regular, scheduled office hours are also required.
Responsibilities
• Assisting the Board with complex legal matters and ensuring consistency and quality of Board decisions regarding settlement matters, the Board’s Own Motion jurisdiction, crimes victims disputes, and third-party disputes
• Researching and drafting orders, and providing direct legal guidance to the Board Members on cases of particular complexity on Board review
• Ensuring that the Board’s rule making process compliance as required by statute, the public meeting laws, and requirements set forth by the Secretary of State
Requirements
• A Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctorate degree and admission to the Bar of any state or federal jurisdiction AND four years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience managing contested case hearings or trials lawyers AND three years of experience conducting contested case hearings or as a trial lawyer OR An equivalent combination of education and experience related to the class concept
