The Continuous Improvement team plays a pivotal role in Intermountain Health’s mission by implementing and sustaining the Intermountain Operating Model. The Continuous Improvement Staff Consultant will collaborate with teams to visualize performance, improve processes, solve problems, and share best practices. This role manages many tasks in a complex environment including coaching leaders, training caregivers, and facilitating projects to deliver results. The Continuous Improvement staff level consultant is for an experienced individual with demonstrated application of a wide variety of continuous improvement tools to drive improvements and solve problems. This position is a trusted member of many complex projects and interacts closely with many leaders in the organization. The staff consultant has experience using many different improvement tools to reduce waste, improve workflows, and increase productivity. The staff consultant will work closely with senior consultants and organizational leaders to prioritize improvement projects and complete tasks. Incumbent will work Monday-Friday during regular business hours. Candidates must live or be willing to relocate where Intermountain Health has operations in Utah, Colorado, or Las Vegas. This role may be hired on as a CI Associate, CI Consultant, or CI Senior Consultant, depending on qualifications and experience. Essential Functions • Leads broad, multi-site process improvement and problem-solving projects • Collaborates with leaders at every level of the organization to implement improvement initiatives • Works with a wide variety of leaders and employees to ensure a smooth adoption of new practices and compliance to existing policies • Partners with leaders to create, implement, and maintain visual management tools • Delivers training and supports Senior Consultants in the development of continuous improvement curriculum • Observes and documents processes, identifies areas for improvement, and works with stakeholders to implement changes • Works closely with Senior Consultants to plan and facilitate performance improvement events • Promotes a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization by implementing the Intermountain Operating Model Skills • Swim lane process mapping • Root cause analysis • Project management • Lean Six Sigma principles • Data collection and extraction • Statistical analysis • Teaching and facilitation • Statistical Process Control • Goal alignment • Microsoft Excel, Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio ​ CI Associate Requirements: • Experience managing multiple projects • Strong verbal and written communication skills for presenting findings and recommendations • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma principles, A3s, and data visualizations • Experience manipulating and analyzing data in Excel • Experience collaborating with a wide variety of professionals • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision • Ability to travel regularly to multiple sites in system CI Consultant Requirements: • Demonstrated ability to lead large, multi-site projects with many key stakeholders • Demonstrated use of common Lean Six Sigma tools such as A3s, fishbone diagrams, process maps, statistical process control, 5S, K-cards, etc. • Demonstrated experience coaching leaders to identify improvement opportunities and lead teams through effective problem solving • Experience using cause analysis tools and applying them to problem solving projects • Strong verbal and written communication skills for presenting findings and recommendations to a wide variety of healthcare leaders • Experience collaborating with a variety of professionals including physicians, nurses, and healthcare executives • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision • Projects that lead to lasting, long-term results • Ability to travel regularly to multiple sites in system CI Senior Consultant Requirements: • Bachelor's Degree obtained through an accredited institution. • Demonstrated experience in a process improvement role. • Working knowledge of business operations including basic leadership, analytical and financial principles, concepts, and methods • Excellent computer skills including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills • Ability to lead projects through an ambiguous, conceptual state to an organized deliverable • Demonstrated ability to lead large, system-wide projects with executive stakeholders • Demonstrated use of common Lean Six Sigma tools such as A3s, fishbone diagrams, process maps, statistical process control, 5S, K-cards, etc. • Demonstrated experience coaching leaders to become expert problem solvers • Experience using cause analysis tools and applying them to problem solving projects • Strong verbal and written communication skills for presenting findings and recommendations to healthcare executives • Experience collaborating with a variety of professionals including physician leaders, nurse leaders, and healthcare executives • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision • Ability to travel regularly to multiple sites in system • Experience mentoring junior staff Preferred Qualifications • Improvement certification such as six sigma, lean or other methodology • Experience improving healthcare processes • * Experience running group improvement events such as rapid improvement events or Kaizen events • Experience facilitating improvement projects and coaching leaders on making improvements Physical Requirements • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs. • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
