Payroll Accountant - DEQ
About the position
We are seeking a detail-oriented and professional Payroll Accountant to join our team on a temporary basis. This role is responsible for performing account reconciliations, supporting month-end close processes, and handling payroll-related tasks for approximately 850 employees. The ideal candidate will have experience with Workday Payroll ERP systems and a strong experience in payroll accounting.
Responsibilities
• Perform account reconciliations.
• Support month-end close processes.
• Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger.
• Generate and format payroll reports required for payroll processing before the pay period and submission deadline.
• Ensure accurate deduction and payroll tax calculations.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Minimum of 2 years of payroll accounting experience.
• Proficiency in payroll reconciliation.
• Experience with journal entries and general ledger posting.
• Month-end close experience.
• Ability to process payroll for 850 employees.
• Proficiency in Workday Payroll ERP system.
• Skill in handling benefit, garnishment, and tax deductions.
• Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience with cloud-based payroll systems, particularly Workday.
• Strong customer service skills, especially in handling difficult situations.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting is preferred.
• Familiarity with Oracle ERP.
• Previous government work experience is a plus.
