Math Item Writer (Freelance)

IXL Learning, developer of personalized learning products used by millions of people globally, is seeking an item writer to join our math content team. In this role, you will collaborate with curriculum designers to write creative, engaging, and mathematically challenging problems for elementary and middle school students. #LI-REMOTE This is a 1099 consulting role through summer 2026 with possible extension. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING • Write engaging and challenging math problems that align with specific educational goals, with a primary emphasis on creating word problems • Adhere to the format and style guidelines established by the IXL curriculum design team • Develop age-appropriate, mathematically precise explanations • Collaborate with math curriculum designers to meet project deadlines WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR • BA/BS degree in mathematics or mathematics education; currently enrolled students are welcome to apply • Solid writing and grammar knowledge, with the ability to match writing style to provided examples • Strong knowledge of middle school through calculus math curriculum is required • Prior math item writing experience is preferred WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR APPLICATION • Your resume • A cover letter that addresses the characteristics of an effective middle school math word problem ABOUT IXL LEARNING IXL Learning is the country's largest EdTech company.
