Industrial/Product Designer for Injection-Molded Storage Container (Hinged Lid & Gasket)
Project Overview
I am developing a household storage container product and need a functional first CAD model for manufacturer feasibility review (not a marketing render and not final production documentation yet).
The goal is to translate a clear design intent into a manufacturable concept that injection-molding manufacturers can evaluate.
This project focuses heavily on the lid system and usability rather than cosmetics.
⸻
Product Summary
The product is a medium-to-large plastic storage bin intended for visible household storage (basement, closets, shelving). It should feel more refined and easier to use than standard industrial totes.
Key elements:
• Single-sided hinged lid (lid remains attached)
• Continuous gasket sealing channel for waterproof/dustproof intent
• Flat, stackable top surface
• Clean exterior walls (minimal industrial ribbing)
• Removable internal tray/shelf system
⸻
What I Need From You
The design should be suitable for injection molding and include appropriate draft angles, wall thickness considerations, and parting line awareness.
• Functional 3D CAD model suitable for manufacturer feedback
• Lid, hinge, and gasket channel concept design
• Basic wall thickness and draft considerations for injection molding
• STEP files (and native CAD files if available)
• Willingness to iterate based on manufacturability feedback
This is not a rendering or branding project. I am prioritizing mechanical practicality over visual presentation at this stage.
⸻
Ideal Experience
• Injection-molded consumer products
• Plastic enclosures or containers
• Hinged mechanisms
• Sealing features (gaskets, snap fits, closures)
Please share similar work examples if available.

Project Approach
I have a written design brief describing usability goals and constraints and will provide that after hiring. I am looking for a collaborative designer who can also offer practical guidance on manufacturability.
This is the first stage of development, with potential for continued work if the collaboration is a good fit.
