Security & Defense Analyst
Job Overview
We are seeking a highly analytical and research-oriented Security & Defense Analyst to support our work in international security, defense policy, and geopolitical risk analysis. This role contributes to strengthening strategic understanding and analytical capability by delivering high-quality research and insight based on open-source information.
• A day in the life of this role could include producing in-depth security research papers, drafting high-quality defense and policy analysis, geopolitical briefing notes, risk assessment documents, or thematic research reports. At times, you will work closely with the team to think through long-term security trends and strategic developments, helping ensure the organization remains well positioned in an evolving global environment.
Responsibilities
• Strategic research projects: Manage and contribute to analytical research projects as needed, particularly by producing timely, high-quality materials to scope, frame, and deliver research outputs. This may include topic definition, desk research, open-source data collection, analytical synthesis, drafting findings and recommendations, and supporting implementation or follow-up analysis.
• Analytical support: Provide analytical support to internal stakeholders, contributing to strategic thinking and structured assessment of security, defense, and geopolitical issues. Support alignment between research outputs and broader strategic objectives.
• Security and policy analysis: Conduct analysis on medium- and long-term security and defense-related issues. Assess the broader international environment, apply research findings, undertake independent analysis, and conduct horizon scanning on emerging risks and trends.
• Insight: Develop analytical insights from complex information and collaborate with team members to translate findings into clear, actionable outputs. Ensure insights from multiple sources are systematically captured and identify opportunities for insights to be applied in strategic discussions and decision-making.
Qualifications
• Proven experience or strong academic background in international relations, security studies, defense analysis, or related research fields.
• Excellent written communication skills in English, with the ability to clearly convey complex analytical ideas.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to interpret and synthesize complex information.
• Familiarity with different regional contexts, cultural practices, or international environments is highly desirable.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a remote team environment.
• A relevant degree in international relations, security studies, political science, or a related field is preferred.
