Job Description SummaryREMOTE POSITION, ROTATING DAYS/NIGHTS/WEEKENDS/HOLIDAYS, REQUIRES HIGHLY MOTIVATED INDIVIDUALAn Organ Allocation Coordinator is responsible for managing the efficient allocation and distribution of donated organs to patients in need of transplants. They work closely with healthcare providers, transplant teams, and organ procurement organizations (OPOs) to ensure that donated organs are matched to appropriate recipients based on medical urgency, compatibility, and geographic proximity. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle complex situations with compassion and professionalism.Training required for position is a minimum of 3 months and takes place on site, downtown Charleston campus and remotely with their preceptor. They work closely with healthcare providers, transplant teams, and organ procurement organizations (OPOs) to ensure that donated organs are matched to appropriate recipients based on medical urgency, compatibility, and geographic proximity. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle complex situations with compassion and professionalism.Key Responsibilities: Organ Matching & Allocation: Ensure that organs are allocated according to ethical guidelines, medical need, and compatibility criteria, using organ transplant systems and databases. Communication & Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact between organ donors, recipients, medical teams, and OPOs to coordinate the timely transfer and transplantation of organs. Logistical Support: Oversee the logistics of organ transportation, ensuring organs are delivered promptly and safely to transplant centers. Monitoring & Documentation: Track organ donation processes, maintain accurate records of organ allocation, and update transplant databases as necessary. Compliance & Quality Control: Ensure all allocation procedures comply with national and local regulations, as well as hospital protocols. Problem-Solving & Crisis Management: Address and resolve any issues or challenges related to organ allocation, including complications with donor/recipient compatibility or transportation delays. Ability to gather critical details about the patient's condition as it pertains to Transplant and escalate complex or urgent matters to the multidisciplinary team. Minimum Training and Education:A bachelor's degree in nursing and three years' experience as a registered nurse. Transplant nursing experience preferred. An ability to establish cooperative working relationships with diverse groups and individuals, medical staff and other health care disciplines. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide range of groups and individuals. Highly developed analytic skills, interpersonal skills and organization skills. Must have emotional/mental ability to perform effectively and efficiently under pressure and during stressful or emergency situations. Must have the ability to be flexible and be able to prioritize and re-prioritize in order to complete the most urgent task at hand. Must maintain the highest standard of professional conduct andconfidentiality.Skills: Experience with Epic, Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams preferredRequired Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:Current South Carolina licensure or compact state required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
