[Remote] Digital Learning Designer I

The Digital Learning Designer I will be responsible for designing and producing engaging digital learning courses for staff and volunteers, focusing on content development and multimedia production.


Responsibilities

  • Design visually impactful and memorable digital learning experiences that engage the audience, increase retention, transfer skills/knowledge, and drive sustained behavior change
  • Produce and deliver high-quality microlearning, online courses, and accompanying job aids and/or audiovisual learning products. Select the appropriate format for each learning project, including audio, webinars, video, quizzes, branching activities, gamification, etc, knowing the benefits and limitations of each. Reconceptualize in-person learning experience for online delivery as learning objects or experiences
  • Test modules and ensure agreement with stakeholders before rolling out digital content. Gather adequate assessment and feedback to determine and accomplish learning outcomes. Successful Digital Learning Designers can understand data, present data to stakeholders, handle data with sensitivity, and make decisions based on user-generated data and digital analytics
  • Conduct a thorough needs analysis of learning objectives, audience needs, knowledge gaps, and content needs with subject matter experts, utilizing stakeholder interviews, user research, and asset analysis
  • Consult and collaborate with teams and departments within InterVarsity, deciding the best tools, modes of delivery, and components based on the needs analysis. Actively engage with SMEs throughout the course development process to maximize learning outcomes. Regularly communicate status of projects
  • Iterate toward a solution, creating objectives, outlines, storyboards, scripts, tutorials, prototypes, and other learning products to test digital learning courses with the audience, while staying within budget
  • Collaborate with the Editorial, Design, Video, and UX teams as needed. Provide copy guidance, write copy, and have additional experience with either graphic design or audiovisual production. Develop graphic and audiovisual assets as needed in courses
  • Work within and contribute to InterVarsity’s Instructional Design System and our established brand
  • Work with others to find a way forward among organizational goals, stakeholder desires, user needs, and resourcing capabilities
  • Keep up with emerging technology and consider its use within ministry and stay up-to-date with resources and digital learning products that could be applicable within InterVarsity’s context
  • Partner with and respond positively to the coaching of your supervisor and national leaders
  • Exercise creativity and self-motivation to contribute to a culture of professionalism and exceptional production
  • Adopt a user-focused mindset: working with a focus on the audience and openness to audience feedback

  • Maintain positive working relationships with 2100 team members
  • Stay informed of trends in the communication arts and keep up on contemporary media, images, and ideas
  • Stay current on computer systems and other media skills
  • Use project management software (Wrike)
  • Meet deadlines for projects
  • Keep organized files
  • Receive feedback and critique from colleagues and supervisor as a part of the instructional design process
  • Provide technical support for IVCF conferences, camps, and other meetings as assigned
  • Attend and/or staff camps, conferences, global projects, chapter meetings, etc. as agreed upon with supervisor
  • Keep expenditures within budget
  • Raise a portion of salary in an amount or percentage agreed upon with supervisor
  • Communicate regularly with current and potential donors, churches, prayer support team members, friends and family regarding ministry with InterVarsity

Skills

  • Annually affirm InterVarsity's Statement of Agreement (Doctrinal Basis and Purpose Statement). Abide by InterVarsity's Code of Conduct. Believe and behave consonantly with InterVarsity's Human Sexuality Theological Paper. Affirm and behave consonantly with InterVarsity's “Women in Ministry Statement of Affirmation”
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Graphic Design, Communication, Digital Media, or comparable degrees required
  • Familiarity with learning theory, universal design for learning, instructional design methods
  • Familiarity with at least 1 e-authoring tool: Articulate Storyline, Camtasia Studio, Adobe Captivate, etc
  • Familiarity with either graphic design or audiovisual production (video/podcast production)
  • Experience with online learning platforms and management systems (e.g. Workday Learning) a plus
  • Experience in user experience/user interface design a plus
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and/or Premiere a plus
  • Experience with web design or app development a plus
  • Experience with gamification a plus
  • Applicant must include a portfolio of at least two recent instructional design projects that demonstrate their strengths, style, and overall ability, including demonstrated graphic design or audiovisual production skills
