[Remote] Page Designer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. MediaNews Group is seeking a creative, detail-oriented, news-loving Page Designer to join its Colorado team. The role involves managing copy editing and headline writing, promoting visual storytelling, and collaborating with editors to ensure effective page design. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and proficiency in relevant software.
Responsibilities
- Manage copy editing and headline writing, ensuring accuracy, style, and proper length
- Promote visual storytelling through photographs, graphics, illustrations, and typography in a logical, organized layout
- Confer regularly with editors regarding story play and visual presentation
- Communicate with hub leadership regarding page design as needed
- Develop a working knowledge of the specific publication being designed and how that relates to the reader
- Communicate with the prepress and production departments regarding quality control issues and the output of negative
- Responsible for the proof of ancillary publications
- Communicate effectively with remote editors via appropriate channel
- Produce classified pages and post content to the web if applicable to assignment
- Curate, aggregate, and edit information from syndicated, news, community organizations, and residents to create the most complete publications possible
- Learn applicable software/platforms that are specific to the hub department
Skills
- Strong news judgment and headline-writing capabilities
- Must live in CO, FL, MA, MN, OH, PA, or TX
- Work hours from 10:30 AM – 6:30 PM MST
- Manage copy editing and headline writing, ensuring accuracy, style, and proper length

- Proficiency in G Suite, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite
- College degree from an accredited four-year college or equivalent experience
- Proven skills in news judgment, typography, page design, headline hierarchies and editing of stories, graphics and photographs
- Previous newspaper design experience
