Performance Tuning Professional 100% remote but required travel for a week for onboarding Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Oracle Tuning Expert with a strong emphasis on SQL and Application Tuning to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for optimizing the performance of our Oracle codebase and applications, ensuring efficient query execution, and improving overall system performance. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with Oracle database architecture, SQL query optimization, and application tuning techniques. Key Responsibilities: • Database Performance Tuning: • Monitor, identify and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, implementing solutions to improve system efficiency and stability. • SQL Query Optimization: • Review and optimize SQL queries to reduce execution time and resource consumption. • Collaborate with developers to rewrite and optimize complex queries, stored procedures, and database triggers. • Use tools and techniques such as Explain Plan and SQL Trace reports to identify and resolve SQL performance issues. • Application Tuning: • Work closely with application developers and architects to identify and resolve performance issues within the application stack. • Optimize the interaction between the application and the Oracle database, ensuring efficient data retrieval and processing. • Conduct load testing and performance benchmarking to validate tuning efforts and predict system behavior under various conditions. • Capacity Planning and Scaling: • Provide insights and recommendations for database and application scaling to handle increasing workloads. • Collaboration and Communication: • Follow agreed ITIL protocols, including adhering to Viterra's Change Management policies and processes. Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including developers, DBAs, and system administrators, to ensure seamless integration and performance across all systems. • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on tuning efforts, performance improvements, and potential risks. Qualifications: • Experience: • 5+ years of experience in Oracle database tuning, with a focus on SQL, PL/SQL and application tuning. • Proven experience in optimizing large-scale Oracle databases and complex SQL queries. • Experience with Oracle 19c in standalone, container and RAC environments. • Technical Skills: • Deep understanding of Oracle database architecture and memory management. • Proficiency in SQL query optimization, including the use of indexes and hints alongside the ability to rewrite the code in a more optimal fashion. • Proven expertise with PL/SQL scripting • Experience with performance tuning tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager and SQL Trace. • Strong knowledge of application server architectures and their interaction with Oracle databases - particularly .NET and PowerBuilder • Other requirements: • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
