Part-Time Remote Tax Preparer (CPA Firm Support – Corp & Individual Returns) - Contract to Hire

About Us We are a growing New York-based CPA firm providing tax, accounting, and advisory services to corporations, partnerships, high-net-worth individuals, and multi-state clients. We are looking to add an experienced part-time tax preparer to support seasonal and ongoing tax preparation work. This is an ideal role for an independent tax professional who already has their own established systems, workflow, and tax preparation software. Position Overview We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented tax preparer who can independently prepare and review business and individual tax returns with minimal oversight. The ideal candidate already operates their own tax preparation process and software environment and is comfortable working remotely while coordinating with a CPA firm team. Responsibilities • Prepare federal and state tax returns for: – Individuals (Form 1040) – S-Corporations (1120-S) – C-Corporations (1120) – Partnerships (1065) – Multi-state filings • Analyze financial statements and trial balances • Prepare year-end adjusting journal entries when needed • Identify tax-saving opportunities and missing information • Communicate professionally regarding open items and tax questions • Deliver completed returns within agreed timelines • Maintain confidentiality and data security standards Requirements • 5+ years of hands-on tax preparation experience • Strong experience preparing both business and individual tax returns • Ability to work independently with minimal training • Must have your own tax preparation software and established workflow/system • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax compliance • Experience with multi-state taxation preferred • Strong attention to detail and organization • Excellent communication and responsiveness Preferred Qualifications • CPA, EA, or experienced senior tax preparer • Experience working with CPA firms • Familiarity with QuickBooks Online and bookkeeping cleanup •Experience handling high-income or complex returns • Knowledge of construction, real estate, professional services, or small business clients is a plus Engagement Details - Remote position - Part-time / project-based - Flexible hours Opportunity for recurring long-term work Increased workload during tax season and extension deadlines To apply, please include: • Summary of your tax experience • Types of returns you specialize in • Tax software you currently use • Your availability per week • Your hourly or per-return pricing • Examples of industries you commonly work with We are looking for someone reliable, efficient, and proactive who can become a long-term resource for our firm.
