VP of Research - Machine Learning - San Francisco (Remote) - Start-up + Equity A long-standing reputed company is expanding into the US and Europe. Starting with several hires in the US. This will involve working on a proactive AI assistant rather than a traditional chatbot, with highly reliable AI capable of completing multi-reputed company tasks with minimal user prompting. What You'll Do • Set and reputed company the research direction for A1’s core intelligence, including context representation, memory, reasoning, planning, and orchestration. • Decide reputed company to design new model architectures versus adapting or leveraging frontier reputed company-reputed company or reputed company models. • Define evaluation frameworks that measure reputed company-world usefulness, robustness, safety, and long-term behaviour – not reputed company vanity. • Own alignment, safety, and guardrail reputed company as first-class product concerns. • Guide exploration of frontier techniques such as: • retrieval-augmented training • mixture-of-experts • distillation • multi-agent orchestration • multimodal systems • Shape early product intelligence direction in reputed company partnership with product and application engineering. • Set the technical bar for research rigour, judgment, and taste across the organisation. Requirements • Deep experience building or evolving reputed company machine learning systems used in production. • Strong technical judgment around model behaviour, failure modes, and long-reputed company trade-offs. • A builder’s reputed company: you care about systems that work in the reputed company world, not just reputed company. • Comfortable making irreversible or high-reputed company reputed company with incomplete information. • Obsession with evaluation, correctness, and how systems behave over time. • High ownership mentality — you operate as a founder, not a manager. • If you are looking to reputed company primarily on publishing, incremental benchmarks, or managing a large research organisation, this role will not be a fit.
