Job description: POSITION SUMMARY:The Health Physicist provides waste management technical support for disposal and treatment facilities. Serves as primary technical point of contact with site personnel, as well as state regulators overseeing radiological operations. Suitable candidates will have advanced knowledge of radioactive waste management programs and procedures to protect against radiation hazards and have the ability to work independently to take ownership of responsibility areasPRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:Serves as the technical point of contact on site radioactive materials matters including radiological safety and risk, site characterization, field instrumentation, radiological data review and validation, radiation measurements, report preparation, transportation and disposal of radiological waste, and trainingWork closely with sales team and site technical staff to evaluate generator waste profiles for acceptance at the facilityServes as primary point of contact with state regulators on radioactive waste treatment/disposal topicsDevelops and maintains waste acceptance guidance and operator aidsDirects survey and monitoring programs to protect facilities and personnel from radiation hazardsImplements dosimetry program and monitors radiation exposure limits for personnel and the environment to ensure that radiation levels are not more than permissible standardsDevelops procedures for federal and state regulations and guidelines for the safe use of radioactive materials, and trains workers in complying with these proceduresHelps prepare for and responds to emergencies involving a loss of control of radioactive materialsWorks with governmental and regulatory agencies and ensures compliance with environmental health and safety and other regulatory standardsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in Health Physics, Radiological Health, Engineering or Physical Science or a related field or an equivalent amount of professional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologies (NRRPT) certification preferredAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business documentation, technical procedures, governmental regulations, and to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries.Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projectsAbility to work within a team environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyGood knowledge of algebraSolid computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPointRewarding Compensation and BenefitsEligible employees can elect to participate in:
