Employees are required to work any 8-hour shift between the hours of 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM (candidate’s time zone). It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.Primary Responsibilities:

• Complete assigned investigations by reviewing medical documentation and preparing informative reports which include documenting evidence
• Must have basic knowledge of current Official Coding Guidelines
• Writes clear, accurate and concise rationales in support of findings with the ability to provide professional and thorough responses to providers, internal and external partners, and leadership
• Complete entry level hospital bill reviews and emergency room E&M validation
• Maintain and manage daily case review assignments, with a high emphasis on quality
• Identify and prepare medical records and itemized bills to support higher level reviews

• High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent work experience
• Must be 18 years of age OR older
• 2+ years of experience with analyzing and solving customer problems in an office setting
• Experience with medical billing and coding certification OR the ability to obtain medical coding certification within 6 months of hire
• Experience with ICD-10 CM and PCS coding
• Moderate proficiency with computer and Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to navigate and learn new and complex computer system applications
• Intermediate level of Microsoft Excel (data entry, sorting, filtering, and pivot tables in spreadsheets)
• Ability to work any 8-hour shift between the hours of 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM (candidate’s time zone). It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1+ years of experience processing claims with UMR CPS (claims processing system). (UMR is UnitedHealthcare's third-party administrator (TPA) solution). (You must be an employee of UMR specifically to have experience with the UMR claims system)
• 1+ years of experience analyzing and solving customer problems
• Recent or current enrollment in a medical billing and coding certification program or courses
• Experience supporting projects

Telecommuting Requirements:

• Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
• Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
• Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

• Organizational skills
• Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present during meetings
