- Complete assigned investigations by reviewing medical documentation and preparing informative reports which include documenting evidence
- Must have basic knowledge of current Official Coding Guidelines
- Writes clear, accurate and concise rationales in support of findings with the ability to provide professional and thorough responses to providers, internal and external partners, and leadership
- Complete entry level hospital bill reviews and emergency room E&M validation
- Maintain and manage daily case review assignments, with a high emphasis on quality
- Identify and prepare medical records and itemized bills to support higher level reviews
- High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent work experience
- Must be 18 years of age OR older
- 2+ years of experience with analyzing and solving customer problems in an office setting
- Experience with medical billing and coding certification OR the ability to obtain medical coding certification within 6 months of hire
- Experience with ICD-10 CM and PCS coding
- Moderate proficiency with computer and Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to navigate and learn new and complex computer system applications
- Intermediate level of Microsoft Excel (data entry, sorting, filtering, and pivot tables in spreadsheets)
- Ability to work any 8-hour shift between the hours of 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM (candidate’s time zone). It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime
- 1+ years of experience processing claims with UMR CPS (claims processing system). (UMR is UnitedHealthcare's third-party administrator (TPA) solution). (You must be an employee of UMR specifically to have experience with the UMR claims system)
- 1+ years of experience analyzing and solving customer problems
- Recent or current enrollment in a medical billing and coding certification program or courses
- Experience supporting projects
- Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
- Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
- Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service
- Ability to balance daily responsibilities independently while prioritizing escalated tasks
- Organizational skills
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present during meetings
