You will be responsible for ensuring that our engineering teams have the resources and environment they need to design, prototype, and test our innovative wearable devices.What You'll Do:
- Lab Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of the hardware lab, including equipment maintenance, calibration, and inventory management.
- Prototyping: We're builders, and you'll be the go to maker and fabricator for the hardware team in San Diego, including managing the 3D Printing and assembly of mockups and design iterations.
- Operate the Machine tools: Run the mechanical milling equipment to help fabricate prototype parts and make modifications: CNC, Lathe, Drill Press, Bandsaw, etc.
- Equipment Procurement: Identify, evaluate, and procure new lab equipment and tools.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the lab budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure the lab adheres to all safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment.
- Resource Allocation: Coordinate lab resources and equipment to support multiple engineering projects.
- Vendor Management: Manage relationships with equipment vendors and service providers.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of lab equipment, procedures, and calibrations.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance lab efficiency and productivity.
- Collaboration: Work closely with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and firmware engineers to support their testing needs.
- Training: Provide training to engineering staff on the proper use of lab equipment.
- 5+ years of experience in managing a hardware development lab, preferably in the electronics industry.
- 5+ years of experience in prototyping both mechanical and electrical parts and assemblies. Expertise with 3D printers, soldering, and machine tools.
- Strong knowledge of electronic test and measurement equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of mechanical test and measurement equipment (e.g., force column testers, microscopy, thermal chambers , etc.).
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices for laboratory environments.
- 3D CAD (Solidworks, Fusion, NX, etc. )
- Experience with setting up and maintaining a new hardware lab.
- Knowledge of data acquisition systems.
- Experience with environmental testing equipment.
- Project management and Budget management experience
