Drum & Bugle Corps Assistant Director
SummaryThis position is located at the United States Naval Academy. The incumbent is responsible for enriching the professional growth and development of the Midshipmen and broadening the musical performance of the Drum and Bugle Corps and other midshipmen musical ensembles.Overview

1. Incumbent must have a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or 1 year equivalent to at least GS-7. A degree in music and experience working with marching bands is preferred.
2. Experience with music arranging and preparation of field shows. Familiarity with Finale, Sibelius, or MuseScore software preferred.
3. Experience in teaching music in both large and small group settings. Experience leading steel drum ensembles preferred.
4. - Accepting applications
- The incumbent will act as music and drill technical expert for the Drum & Bugle Corps.
- The incumbent will advise and assist the Drum & Bugle Corps Staff in assembling and presenting field, concert and spirit support performances utilizing the best methods of instruction and rehearsal pedagogy.
- The incumbent will obtain assistance of other musical and drill specialists as required and as funding permits via the Musical Activities Office.
- The incumbent will assist the Drum & Bugle Corps and Staff as necessary in preparing performances and travel with the understanding that the incumbent has no scheduling or contracting authority.
- The incumbent will assist in the preparation of field shows for the Drum & Bugle Corps. If needed, the incumbent will write the music for the field show.
- The incumbent will report to the Director of Musical Activities.
- The incumbent will submit input and assist in preparing the annual budget.
- The incumbent will maintain familiarity with COMDTMIDNINST 4653.1, COMDTMIDNNOTE 1710 and all other applicable Musical Activities Department, USNA or DOD instructions.
- The incumbent will perform other duties as assigned.
- Work is primarily sedentary. However, there is some walking, standing, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items such as instruments.
- Duties are performed within an office setting, on a parade/football field, and concert venues.
- Must obtain and maintain a secret security clearance – requires 18 years of age
- Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered for Selective Service
- Verification of employment eligibility in the United States is required
- Probationary period: Full Time and Part Time employees serve a one-year probationary period. Flexible employees are employed based on the needs of the business.
- U.S. Citizenship is required for Tier 3 Positions
- Must be able to understand and communicate in English
