About the position The Director of Online Education and Educational Technology at Florida Memorial University is a pivotal role responsible for leading and managing the university's online courses and a comprehensive suite of programs. This position involves evaluating and recommending innovative concepts, technologies, and delivery modes for online and hybrid learning, as well as classroom technology. The Director ensures the exemplary quality of online courses and compliance with all accreditation and regulatory requirements. This role aligns efforts with the university's academic priorities, mission, branding, and institutional learning outcomes. Collaboration with academic departments, faculty, and staff is essential, as is facilitating and recommending professional development for online faculty. The Director serves as the key point of contact for online partners, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. The essential functions of this role include oversight of the distance learning program, learning management system, staff, and budget. The Director acts as a liaison between online students and university academic support services, overseeing initial distance education training and continuing education for faculty. This includes facilitating faculty development workshops focused on online teaching and training faculty and staff on fair use and copyright laws as they relate to distance learning. The Director is responsible for identifying and implementing best practices for distance learning pedagogy to ensure the quality and effectiveness of distance education course programming. Additionally, the role involves providing support to faculty through ongoing research on emerging technologies that may be adapted to distance learning course and program development. The Director will ensure compliance with SACSCOC standards for distance learning and direct operations of the university's online programs, including scheduling, student support, faculty coordination, and enrollment processing. Managing relationships and projects with third-party service providers for online education programs is also a key responsibility. The Director will develop and implement strategic plans and policies for online learning, perform yearly program assessments, and provide ongoing budgetary analysis. Identifying and researching new revenue streams for the university and enhancing educational experiences for students relating to online programming are also critical components of this role. Collaboration with and advising Deans, Division Chairs, or other supervisors is necessary to ensure instructional quality, assessment of faculty teaching styles, and the identification of areas for improvement in courses and programs. Effective communication in a professional, tactful, and courteous manner with students, employees, faculty, and the general public is essential. All activities must be conducted within established university policies, FERPA guidelines, and other applicable laws pertaining to employment and education. Requirements • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field. , • At least 3 years of related experience in online education or educational technology. , • Demonstrated expertise in effective and innovative pedagogical application of technology to online/hybrid course delivery. , • Excellent oral and written communication skills. , • Experience in managing online/hybrid delivery programs in a Learning Management System. , • Experience with market analysis, strategic planning, and online marketing of educational programs. , • Experience with program assessment and data-based reporting. , • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
