Finance Manager - nonprofit / Remote

A well-funded up-and-coming nonprofit seeks a Finance Manager to join our team. In this role, you will manage budgeting and forecasting processes, support grant compliance, and collaborate across departments to deliver accurate, timely financial insights. Your work will directly support the financial integrity of a cutting-edge organization at the intersection of government, industry, and academia.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead the monthly rolling forecast, annual budget, and long-range planning processes.
• Partner with program and budget managers to monitor financial performance, reconcile cost categories, and adjust funding allocations.
• Manage donor funding complexities, including funding orders and realignments.
• Prepare monthly budget-to-actual reports and provide variance analysis for internal and external stakeholders.
• Support the transition from Excel-based forecasting to an enterprise ERP system; lead the implementation of ERP budget and forecasting modules.
• Conduct audits of financial data, calculate accruals and allocations, and ensure compliance with GAAP and grant-specific requirements.
• Oversee the preparation and timely submission of financial reports to government agencies and grantors.
• Maintain and update internal controls, financial procedures, and organizational policies.
• Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities and support financial reforecasting cycles.
• Act as a strategic finance partner across the organization, offering scenario analysis and translating complex data into actionable insights and presentations.
• Fully manage the rolling forecast business cycle, from planning through execution.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting and finance, ideally in a nonprofit or R&D-focused environment.
• Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and financial drivers.
• Demonstrated knowledge of procurement, accounting processes, and the full financial lifecycle.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas and workbook development.
• Experience in developing clear and concise financial reports and communicating financial concepts to diverse audiences.
• Excellent project management, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
• Proven ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated history of innovation, reinvention, and continuous process improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in semiconductor R&D, manufacturing, or related fields such as construction or workforce development.
• Big 4 experience
• Prior involvement in implementing ERP systems or other enterprise-level financial tools.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $140,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
