Job Summary:

The Payroll Processing Specialist will be responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll, performing audits of employee timesheets and payroll deductions, and preparing necessary adjustments. This role will also involve answering paycheck and payment calculation questions, and ensuring compliance with federal and state laws regarding payroll and the calculation of hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of payroll policies and processes for assigned subsidiaries, interacting with Human Resources personnel and reviewing company policies and procedures.
  • Process payroll bi-weekly, ensuring all deadlines are met, and review system edits before and after processing to ensure compliance with Department of Labor regulations and organizational pay practices.
  • Resolve problems associated with payroll processes by researching information and interacting with employees, managers, and Human Resources.
  • Perform payroll processing functions, including verification of input made by timekeepers, pay code entries, shift premium calculations, inter-departmental transfer of hours, and paid time off payments.
  • Train timekeepers and process earnings entered through the time and attendance system.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities, identifying quality improvement opportunities and implementing action plans.
  • Assist with Union contract changes related to Payroll Processing and test additions or changes to the employee timekeeping system.
  • Work with Human Resources on Payroll submissions and corrections, and process retroactive wage increases.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of payroll experience required.
  • Two years of general clerical experience working with a computer system required.
  • Associate degree in finance or accounting preferred.
  • One year of experience working on a computerized payroll system preferred.
  • One year of experience working with Kronos time and attendance preferred.
