Freelance Legal Language Expert: Translator, Transcriber, and Interpreter
Join Our Team of Language Professionals and Make a Difference as a Freelance Legal Translator, Transcriber, and Interpreter. We are seeking skilled and experienced language experts to work with us on a freelance basis, providing high-quality translation, transcription, and interpretation services to our clients. As a remote or onsite team member in Washington, DC; New York City, NY; Miami, FL; Houston, TX; Dallas, TX; or San Francisco, CA, you will play a critical role in helping us deliver exceptional language services to our clients.
We are looking for talented individuals who are proficient in translating, transcribing, and interpreting between English and one or more of the following languages: Belarusian, Cape Verdean, Catalan, Cebuano, Enping, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Haitian Creole, Hausa, Hindko, Icelandic, Igbo, Indonesian, Japanese, Jamaican Patois, Haitian Creole, Kazakh, Khmer, Korean, Kurdish, Kyrgyz, Lao, Malayalam, Montenegrin, Nepali, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Samoan, Sindhi, Somali, Spanish, Sudanese, Swahili, Taishanese, Tajik, Tigrinya, Thai, Ukrainian, Urdu, Uzbek, Western Punjabi, Yiddish, and Yoruba.
Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and high-quality translation of documents involving law enforcement and legal subjects
- Transcribe audio files and translate them into the target language
- Communicate fluently in English orally and in writing
- Translate in accordance with designated style and quality standards
- Use domain-specific terminology and review the quality of other translators' work as needed
- Interpret accurately, while preserving the tone and register, and abiding by the code of ethics
Requirements:
- Proficient in translating, transcribing, and interpreting between English and a foreign language
- Experience in audio transcription and familiarity with legal terminology
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Willing to undergo a US government background check and proficient in Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications:
- Law degree, paralegal certificate, or court interpreting experience
- Experience with editing, audio transcription, or interpreting
- Security clearance
