Job Summary

We're looking for an experienced Application Development Technical Service Engineer to work with new and existing customers in the fiber optic cable (FOC) space in North America. As a technical expert, you will collaborate with customers to optimize their process conditions, work with our R&D and manufacturing teams to develop products that meet customer needs, and support existing customers by troubleshooting issues and resolving complaints.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop and manage relationships with customers and industry counterparts, communicate technically complex subjects to diverse audiences, and network with colleagues globally. You will also be responsible for identifying and pursuing new customer and application opportunities, serving as a credible technical expert, and collaborating with other Avient businesses and Corporate Technology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project management for new application developments, including product launch testing plans, data analysis, and technical product specification creation
  • Offer technical service support to established and targeted customers, including resolving customer technical issues and complaints
  • Collaborate with the commercial team to identify and pursue new customer and application opportunities within our existing customer and market base
  • Serve as a credible technical expert at customers, manufacturing partners, and broadly across the FOC and wire and cable industries
  • Collaborate with other Avient businesses and Corporate Technology as part of the larger Avient technical community

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Materials Science, or Textile) or related discipline; Master's or Ph.D. preferred
  • At least 5 years' experience in R&D, Application Development, Process Development, and/or Technical Service roles with demonstrated direct customer engagement
  • Knowledge of FOC or wire & cable materials and processes, with broad knowledge of materials (polymers and fibers)
  • Experience with fiber processing, extrusion, or coating technologies and processes preferred
  • Demonstrated capabilities developing and/or troubleshooting complex manufacturing processes
  • Complex problem-solving skills with the ability to translate customer needs into achievable technical solutions
