Founding Engineer at Teracy: Shape the Future of Remote Work and Relationships
Join Teracy, a pioneering presence app, in redefining the way people connect and collaborate online. As a Founding Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in building a platform that fosters meaningful relationships and a sense of community among remote workers and individuals. Our mission is to create a product that not only facilitates collaboration but also nurtures real human connections, making a positive impact on people's lives.
About Teracy
We're a innovative company that's already made a significant impact in Japan, with a loyal user base and impressive retention rates. Our goal is to expand globally, starting with the US, and reach 1 million users by the end of 2025. With a strong foundation of $1.3M in bootstrapped funds and an additional $1.7M in pre-seed funding, we're well-positioned for growth and success.
What We're Building
Teracy is a multi-platform presence app designed for teams, communities, and individuals who want to stay connected and feel close, even when physically apart. Our product features a "shared presence" experience, real-time interaction, and a user-friendly interface. We're built on a tech stack that includes React, Electron, Swift, and Node.js, and we're always looking for ways to improve and innovate.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking a talented and passionate Founding Engineer who shares our vision and values. If you're frustrated with soulless tools and hyper-optimized culture, and you want to use your skills to make a positive impact, we want to hear from you. You should be a strong communicator, a team player, and someone who cares deeply about people and software.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
- 5+ years of experience or equivalent skill level in software engineering
- Strength in either frontend (React/Electron), mobile (Swift), or backend (Node.js/Infra) development
- Comfort working across platforms (Web, Mobile, Desktop)
- Experience in early-stage or cross-functional teams
- Fluent in async communication and fast feedback cycles
Nice-to-have skills include tech lead or EM experience, cross-platform UI/UX experience, and familiarity with LiveKit, WebRTC, or real-time systems.
Compensation & Working Style
We offer a competitive compensation package, including equity (stock options or founder-level shares), a fully remote work arrangement with optional offsite retreats, and a flexible timezone that overlaps with JP 9–13 / SF 17–21 / NY 20–24. You'll have access to a range of tools, including Slack, Notion, Figma, GitHub, and Teracy, and you'll be part of a clear, async-first, written culture that values honesty, ownership, and shared growth.
Team & Culture
Our team is small, diverse, and dynamic, with a mix of engineers, designers, and product managers. We're mostly Japan-based, but we're expanding to the US in 2025. We value trust, ownership, and care, and we're committed to creating a positive and inclusive work environment. Our main language is English, but we're flexible with Japanese use.
