Backend Engineer Document Management System (DMS)

Robert Half is seeking a Backend Engineer to support a Group Insurance Claims organization based in Remote (U.S. Only). This role involves building a new Document Management System from scratch to support claims ingestion and document automation. Job Details: Schedule: Monday–Friday, flexible U.S. hours (EST preferred) Duration: 6 months (likely extension) Location: Remote (U.S. Only) Job Responsibilities: • Lead backend development for a cloud-native Document Management System (DMS) on AWS • Create pipelines for document ingestion, storage, metadata schemas, and lifecycle automation • Architect and deploy backend microservices with secure APIs and event-driven designs • Collaborate with product owners, architects, and engineers to deliver scalable document processing systems • Own the full development lifecycle including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and observability • Balance technical design with business goals in a small, fast-paced Agile team • 3+ years of backend engineering experience Java, C#, or Typescript, Python. • Strong experience with AWS (S3, Lambda, CDK, IAM, CloudWatch) • Hands-on experience with document workflows: search indexing, metadata modeling, retention • Skilled in REST APIs, JSON schemas, event-driven architecture • Agile team experience and ability to work in flexible, startup-style culture • Bonus: OCR tooling, HIPAA familiarity, or experience with claims/DMS environments Apply tot his job Apply To this Job
