About the position
Responsibilities
• Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications across multiple jurisdictions, including PCT, U.S., and national phases.
• Review and prepare responses to office actions from various patent offices.
• Coordinate with inventors, outside counsel, and patent offices to ensure accurate and timely submissions.
• Maintain and manage a docket of active patent applications and issued patents, ensuring all deadlines are met.
• Monitor and track key dates related to patent prosecution, including annuities, maintenance fees, and responses to office actions.
• Ensure accurate record-keeping and documentation of all prosecution-related activities.
• Handle the payment of annuities and other fees required to maintain patent portfolios.
• Work closely with R&D and legal teams to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
• Create and maintain claims binders for all active patent applications, ensuring that all claims are properly documented and up to date.
• Assist in the preparation of claim charts and other documentation for litigation or licensing activities.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders, including inventors, engineers, and legal teams, to ensure alignment on Invention Disclosures, prosecution strategies, and objectives.
• Provide regular updates to management on the status of the patent portfolio and any significant developments in prosecution efforts.
Requirements
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in patent prosecution, with a focus on managing patent portfolios and filing applications.
• Experience in IP law firms or corporate legal departments preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field; paralegal certification or a law degree is preferred but not required.
• Strong understanding of patent laws and regulations, both in the U.S. and internationally.
• In-depth knowledge of patent, trademark, and copyright law.
• Proficiency with patent management software and databases.
• Strong organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage dockets and meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Experience in the medical device industry is preferred.
